What are freeze-dried foods?
Freeze-dried foods are simply foods that have been dehydrated via a process called lyophilization, meaning the water moisture is removed from the food WITHOUT turning it into a liquid - unlike conventional dehydration where foods are HEATED to remove the water. This is a summary of the process:
- Meals are freshly cooked by expert chefs and placed on trays in freeze-drying machine
- Food is frozen, and then a vacuum activates which causes the ice to change directly from a solid to a vapor, without becoming a liquid
- Food undergoes a secondary drying known as ‘desorption drying’, which dries the products to their desired humidity by removing the remaining bound water.
What about storage and shelf life?
No need to store in the fridge or freezer – just keep them in your cupboard or draw,, out of direct sunlight. Each meal stays fresh for at least a couple of months from time of purchase (best before date found on back of each packet) so you don’t have to worry!
Is there any cooking involved?
No! Just follow our 3 step process:
1. Empty contents into a dish and add required quantity of boiling water (found on back of packet)
2. Mix well and cover with a lid for 5-10 minutes
3. Remove lid, mix well and serve
How are these meals made?
Our meals are freshly cooked by expert Indian chefs and then freeze-dried (like your instant coffee!), a process which removes the air and moisture to keep meals fresh for months WITHOUT adding preservatives.
