Two pocket-sized grit stones in one pack let you touch up knives, axes and other edged tools in the field. Small enough to carry in a belt pouch or knife sheath, they let you restore a working edge at camp rather than waiting until you are home.

They suit bushcraft hobbyists and wild campers who want a light, inexpensive way to keep their tools sharp on longer trips. The second stone makes a useful spare for another kit bag.

FAQs

Should I use water or oil on a sharpening stone?

Either will work on a small grit stone, and many people use it dry in the field. Whichever you choose, stick with it: once a stone has been used with oil, water will no longer work properly on it.

How do I sharpen a knife in the field?

Rest the stone on a flat surface or hold it firmly, lay the blade's bevel flat against it, and use light, even strokes along the full edge. Give both sides the same number of strokes and check for a burr before switching sides.

Can I sharpen an axe with a pocket stone?

Yes. Hold the axe steady and work the stone in small circles along the bit, keeping it flat against the bevel.
