Char cord works much like char cloth: it is a charred natural material that catches even the smallest spark. Its big advantage is that it smoulders more slowly and efficiently, which gives you more time to turn an ember into a flame. That makes it better suited to starting a fire.
It is made entirely in Germany, right down to the rope itself, which comes from a German ropery.
Key features
- Catches the smallest spark
- Smoulders slower than char cloth
- Approximately 50cm long
- Made entirely in Germany
How to use
Hold the end of the cord against your tinder and strike a spark onto it with a fire steel. Once it glows, nest it in a tinder bundle and blow gently.
Good to know
The fire steel shown in the photos is not included. Because of how it is made, a small section of the rope may not be fully pyrolysed. If so, an extra piece of char cord is added at final inspection.
Strike it with the UCO Titan Fire Striker, compare with Petromax Char Cloth, and see more fire making equipment.
