Pack Light With Our Lightweight Smocks & Ponchos

A smock is a great option for those camping trips where you need something light and breathable but still require protection from the downpour. They provide freedom of movement, are lightweight, and are super easy to pack with the rest of your camping gear.

The Teflon-coated Highlander Halo Smock is the ideal choice of outdoor jacket to help you blend into your surroundings. This lightweight, waterproof jacket features a high neckline to keep you warm, as well as an adjustable peaked hood to keep you protected from the rain. The front pouch and zipped side pockets mean you can take all your essentials with you too.

The Naturehike Waterproof Breathable Raincoat is another of our top picks for outdoor activities. This poncho-style raincoat weighs only 500g and is waterproof up to 10000mm. The oversized poncho design means you can easily cover yourself and your pack to stay protected from the rain. When it's not in use, you can fold it down into its handy carry bag.

Waterproof Raincoats from Top Brands

Raincoats are an essential item for camping in wet conditions and can offer some protection from inclement weather. We have a wide selection of waterproof camping raincoats available, suitable for both men and women.

Our favourite raincoat is the Highlander Reversible Down Jacket. This heavy-duty, 4-season, waterproof jacket is made from durable 380T nylon fabric and filled with TECLOFT synthetic down to keep you warm, even in the chilliest of temperatures. Despite being made from tough materials, this reversible coat weighs in at only 540g, making it a great option for women’s and men's camping jackets.

Do Waterproof Jackets Keep You Warm?

Waterproof jackets won't necessarily keep you warm. It ultimately depends on the design of the coat. A jacket that's only designed to be waterproof isn't likely to have any insulation to keep you warm. Its job is to keep you dry. If you’re looking for a warm, waterproof jacket, also look for one that’s insulated and wind-proof – this will provide extra protection against the chill.

Are Puffer Jackets Good for Hiking?

A puffer jacket isn't an ideal choice for hiking due to its bulkiness and lack of breathability. While some puffer or padded jackets have been designed to be warm yet breathable, not all of them have. You should always purchase a puffer jacket for hiking from a reputable outdoor retailer or opt for a lightweight jacket with water-resistant fabric instead.

How Waterproof Should a Camping Jacket Be?

A camping jacket should be waterproof to at least 10,000mm of water pressure, as this level is considered suitable for light rain use. Higher ratings, such as 15,000 to 20,000mm, are more suited for extreme weather conditions like heavy or prolonged rain. Check the product description before buying a jacket to know its waterproof rating.

Is Synthetic Insulation as Warm as Natural Insulation?

Synthetic insulation is generally not as warm as natural insulation, but it depends on the quality. Synthetic insulation provides a good balance between warmth and weight, but it does not replicate the warmth of natural options such as down or wool. Natural insulation is known for its superior breathability and warmth-retention properties, which synthetic materials cannot replicate.
